Greater Life Church Family and Friends:

Steven Scott in his book, “The Richest Man Who Ever Lived,” makes the suggestion that it would be good to read one Proverb per day each month for the next two years and record what you are learning. As we have learned in the past several months, the Book of Proverbs is a goldmine of information on practical and wise living. Last Sunday I suggested that families, especially with older children, could gain much by taking this suggestion using a good modern translation of the Scripture. Take five or ten minutes each day, maybe in the morning before work or school, or at an evening meal time or just before bedtime. Talk with your children about what you are reading and how to apply it in their lives. If we become as serious about getting God’s Word into the lives of our kids regularly as we are about getting them to their next soccer or baseball game on time, don’t you think it would make a difference in their lives? God intended for kids to be developed in the family - the original family unit of the home and in God’s Family - the Church. Think about it and see how God might honor your commitment to raising godly children this summer!

Next Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. This Sunday commemorates the giving of the Holy Spirit to the disciples of Jesus and to the Church. It is the inauguration of the New Testament Church. The power of Holy Spirit has long been recognized as necessary for every believer to live as a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. This power for life has its roots in several Old Testament passages. We will look at one of these passages this next weekend. Our theme will be: “When You Are Dead Tired . . . .” There is a weariness that develops in every believer that can be refreshed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Discover this new energy and how it can change your life. It all begins at 10:00 AM at the Greater Life Café and then the Celebration Service at 10:30 AM.

Games start in July! Have you signed up? A Co-ed Softball Team is being formed at Greater Life Church to play in the West Des Moines City Leagues. We are looking for men and women who would like to play. We need a minimum of thirteen to field the team. The games will be played on Thursday evenings starting in June. There will be six games. If you are interested contact Ryan Richard email him at: info@glcchurch.com

We are focusing on twenty-five promises from God’s word for Tough Times. When times are uncertain and difficult where do you turn for direction and hope? Here is Promise #9. God promises to give strength whatever the financial situation . . . “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives the strength I need.” Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT).
